Mindy Marqués Gonzalez, Vice President and Executive Editor
Mindy Marqués joined Simon & Schuster in 2020 as Vice President and Executive Editor after a 34-year career as a journalist. She has acquired and edited Give Me Liberty by Pulitzer Prize winning journalist David E. Hoffman as well as the New York Times bestseller Dinners with Ruth by NPR legal correspondent Nina Totenberg. Forthcoming titles include Dancing in the Darkness by Otis Moss III, A Wing and a Prayer by award-winning journalists Anders and Beverly Gyllenhaal, and Homegrown by New York Times bestselling author Jeffrey Toobin.
Prior to book publishing, Marqués was publisher and executive editor of the Miami Herald and el Nuevo Herald and Florida Regional Editor for McClatchy. During her tenure, the Miami Herald received two Pulitzer Prizes and was a finalist four times. Award-winning work included the in depth series that revealed widespread abuses in Florida’s juvenile justice system as well as the nationally acclaimed investigation into millionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein and his cohorts. Marqués received the Benjamin C. Bradlee Editor of the Year award in 2019 and is a former member of the Pulitzer Prize Board.
Marqués also was the Miami bureau chief for PEOPLE magazine, overseeing coverage in the southeastern U.S., the Caribbean and Latin America. Cover stories ranged from the Bennifer break-up to the D.C. sniper attacks.
Mindy is acquiring general nonfiction and select literary fiction. She is drawn to narrative nonfiction and immersive journalism books that examine the more complex issues of our time, be it politics, culture, social justice or the natural world. She is also interested in memoir, autobiography/biography and history that illuminates the present through the prism of the past. A native New Yorker and first-generation Cuban-American, Mindy lives in South Florida with her husband and two children.
