LaSharah S. Bunting, Vice President and Executive Editor

LaSharah S. Bunting joined Simon & Schuster in 2021 as Vice President and Executive Editor after a 20-year career in journalism. LaSharah is acquiring nonfiction. She is drawn to deeply reported, narrative nonfiction that examines race, class, current events, arts, business, and technology. She is also interested in books that help people to think deeply about how they live and how they work. This includes practical self-development and wellness, spirituality, food, and health.

Most recently, LaSharah served as the Director/Journalism at John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, where she managed a portfolio of grants and initiatives focused on advancing organizational transformation and equity and diversity in journalism.

Prior to her work at Knight, LaSharah spent 13 years at The New York Times, where she served in various editing roles. In her final role at The Times, she was Senior Editor, leading digital and organizational transformation across the newsroom. LaSharah also worked as an editor on The Times’ National desk, where she directed breaking news and oversaw the department’s daily report, multimedia projects and audience engagement. She was an assignment editor on the Metro and Arts and Culture desks as well as editor for Frank Rich’s Sunday Op-Ed column. Before coming to The Times in 2004, LaSharah was an editor at The Dallas Morning News.
