Howard Books publishes adult trade fiction and non-fiction books. Our goal is to inspire readers one word at a time. With a reach into both the Christian and general markets, we are the primary imprint at Simon & Schuster for faith-based books and a member of the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association. Libby McGuire, Senior Vice President, Publisher
Libby McGuire was named Senior Vice President, Publisher of the Atria Publishing Group in April 2018. In her role she has responsibility for all the editorial and publishing activities of the group’s various hardcover and trade paperback imprints.
Ms. McGuire began her publishing career in 1992 in various positions at HarperCollins, before becoming a national account manager at Simon & Schuster. She joined Random House in 2000, where she was eventually named Executive Vice President and Publisher of Ballantine Bantam Dell. At Ballantine Bantam Dell, Ms. McGuire oversaw the publication annually of a list heavy with New York Times bestsellers, in fiction and nonfiction, from both new and established authors, and published the first Pulitzer Prize–winning book in Bantam’s history, TOMS RIVER by Dan Fagin. Notable and bestselling authors published under Ms. McGuire’s direction include Lee Child, Daniel Coyle, Rocco DiSpirito, Janet Evanovich, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Emily Giffin, Ashley Judd, Jonathan Kellerman, Dean Koontz, Debbie Macomber, Jodi Picoult, Leah Remini, Jenny Sanford and Danielle Steel. Ms. McGuire was also responsible for the group’s licensed publishing programs ranging from the “Star Wars” franchise to ESPN Books, and imprints including One World, Presidio Press and Del Rey.
Prior to joining Simon & Schuster, Ms. McGuire was a literary agent at The Gernert Company.
Ms. McGuire is a graduate of Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. She is on the board of Women's Media Group, and lives in Manhattan with her family.
Beth Adams, Executive Editor
Beth Adams acquires both fiction and nonfiction for the Christian and inspirational markets. Some of the bestsellers she’s worked on at Howard include Karen Kingsbury’s Love Story, Allison Pataki’s The Accidental Empress, and Life is Short by Dr. Jennifer Arnold and Bill Klein. Before joining Howard Books in 2012, she worked at Random House and Guideposts. She graduated from Princeton University and has a master’s degree in English from New York University. She is the author or co-author of more than twenty-five novels under various pen names, which she will reveal for the right price.
Becky Nesbitt, Editor-At-Large
A publishing veteran, Becky acquires and edits both fiction and non-fiction for the inspirational and Christian markets. Recent New York Times bestsellers she’s edited for Howard include all titles by Karen Kingsbury, most currently Love Story and Baxter Family Christmas; Rise of Isis by Jay Sekulow; EntreLeadership by Dave Ramsey; What’s So Funny? by Emmy Award-winning comedian, Tim Conway, and Called to Coach by legendary Florida State coach, Bobby Bowden. Over the course of her 25-year career she has also worked with bestselling authors such as Frank Peretti, Tosca Lee, Paul Young, Darryl and Tracy Strawberry, Francine Rivers, Joel C. Rosenberg, Jerry Jenkins, Dinesh D’Souza, Dee Henderson, Randy Alcorn, Joe Gibbs and many others. Before joining Howard Books in 2009, Becky spent 16 years at Tyndale House Publishers in Chicago where she held various editorial positions. She works remotely from her office in Nashville, TN.
Kristen O’Neal, Editorial Assistant
Kristen O’Neal graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a degree in English in 2015. She assists Beth Adams and Becky Nesbitt on faith-based fiction and nonfiction. She’s also a freelance writer, focusing on religion and culture.
